In a normal week, a New Moon might be the highlight of the astrological activity. But this is 2021, and we don’t just do New Moons without peppering in the intensity of Pluto, Jupiter and Uranus too!
On Tuesday January 12 @ 9:00pm PT / 12:00am ET, we have a Capricorn New Moon, closely conjoined with Pluto, that is beginning a lunar cycle of deeply regenerative processes related to: government, business, existing societal structures – and, on a personal level: career, wealth and strategies for attaining external measures of success. This New Moon is jam packed with paradoxical aspects that will provide a complex backdrop for the procession of our collective awakening process.
On the Capricorn New Moon, Venus shares a meeting of pure harmony with Uranus and Mars, providing flashes of insight and extra heart-based fuel to pour into the projects and relationships that mean the most to us. These electrified feelings can be related to wisdom gained from deep wounding around our right to exercise independence and freely express our warrior spirit, as Venus squares Chiron. On the other hand, however, Mercury seeks to solve tension through a square to Uranus and Mars, putting our ability to clearly communicate in jeopardy and at risk of containing too much egotism.
With Mars squaring Saturn, this is a New Moon that will come with a side of struggle as the frustration builds between our drive to “make it happen” and the restrictions within which we are attempting to function. It’s generally a good idea to avoid speaking from a space of anger, fear or pain to make sure we do not say things we will regret later. Uranus’s involvement in multiple aspects of this New Moon reminds us to gently brace for surprises, as this planet truly aims to shock.
Two days later, on January 14, Uranus will station direct in Taurus. This begins a two weeklong period of all planets moving forward. If opportunities arise to push forward on goals we’ve been simmering with for some time, it may be worthwhile to gently accelerate the gas pedal during this period of deeper planetary clarity before Mercury goes retrograde at the end of the month. On the same day as Uranus goes direct, the Sun will conjunct Pluto and we may find we have been given the gift of more awareness in a particular area that could help us on our hero’s journey forward.
We close out the week with a Jupiter-Uranus square, bringing the possibility of rapid progressive expansion and/or a large separation from the “norm”. Jupiter seeks to transform meaning into wisdom and Uranus seeks to liberate by shattering limitations. In a square, these planets are meeting under tension that can potentially create productivity when energy is focused. This is an aspect that can lend itself to the collective birthing process by providing some breakthrough or otherwise land us in a new dimension.
