Making Peace with Confusion
The main theme of this week can be boiled down to one word: confusion. We are likely to be unsure of what to say or what direction to go – and that’s okay. There is no need to push against this confusion; rather, we would be wise to take this time to pause and contemplate our situation. (Bonus points for incorporating a spiritual practice.)
The week begins on Monday with a sextile between the Sun and Neptune, creating conditions that can boost creative expression. The Sun in Capricorn may have us focusing on what we can tangibly produce, while Neptune in Pisces is wrapping us up in a blanket of compassion. Combining these two energies, we may be able to find a state of flow that allows us to be easy and gentle with ourselves (and others) in the process. However, we should not expect a concrete understanding of what this is leading to just yet. In other words, enjoy the artistic process instead of focusing on the outcome.
The Moon will be in Taurus from Monday morning until Wednesday evening, urging us to tap into our senses and indulge in creature comforts. In other words, pick the comfortable clothes, cook the comfort meal and remember to feel into your body. Anything that requires you to disconnect from your senses will likely create emotional distress, so don’t forget to regularly check in with yourself.
On Tuesday, Mars will square Neptune and we may find ourselves feeling disappointed that something is not working out how we would have liked it to. We could be presented with a choice to make in which we feel confused about both options, as Neptune can sometimes cloak us in fogginess. This is not a day (or week, really) to act, and we are better off airing on the side of excessive caution rather than taking a risk. Be mindful of who you are trusting, too, because this transit can sometimes cause deception.
From Wednesday evening until Saturday morning, the Moon will be in Gemini. This is a great time to catch up on emails or pick up that conversation where you left off. In Gemini, the Moon inspires us to connect and learn. Sign up for that online course or try that YouTube tutorial and see what new skills you learn – you might pleasantly surprise yourself!
The main astrological attraction this week occurs on Friday morning, when Mercury stations retrograde in Aquarius. From January 14 until February 3, Mercury will retrograde all the way back into Capricorn. During this time (January 14 – 25 in particular) we are filtering our mental capacities through a more objective lens, which can be uniquely refreshing. This time can help us peel off the rose-colored glasses and see the people and circumstances of our lives for what they really are, rather than what we want them to be. Once Mercury retrogrades back into Capricorn on January 25, we will begin considering what needs to be restructured so as to align with our future goals.
Over the weekend the Moon will move into Cancer, creating an emotion lead up to Monday’s Full Moon. The Sun will merge with Pluto on Sunday, perhaps revealing a deeper truth that we have previously been in the dark about. This new truth is connected to the structure of our lives, so it is likely to evoke strong emotions. The Cancer Full Moon on Monday will undoubtedly activate a release of emotions – especially if we have been trying to hide our feelings to keep the peace. With an opposition to Pluto, this Full Moon can highlight the power dynamics we are engaging in. It is important to remember that avoiding conflict to maintain someone else’s disposition is a form of manipulation and it is the breeding ground for resentment and other eventual consequences of self-abandonment.
