We are in a mutable moon cycle that began with the 1° Sagittarius New Moon on November 23. The T-Square of Mars RX, Neptune and Ceres at the time of the New Moon created a sensitive, uncertain, mystical environment in which we were to plant our seed of hope and faith. Ultimately the beginning of this moon cycle called for us to respect our physical and emotional limitations.
The first quarter moon at 8° Pisces occurs on November 30, transporting us to the realm of highly changeable emotion where we may need to take action based on our intuitive sense of a situation. At this first quarter Pisces Moon, we must be ready to accept + integrate new information and flow with the resulting circumstantial changes. Emotions that rise up to the surface can be crucial puzzle pieces that reveal our bigger picture to us. This point in the moon cycle may also ask us to let go of something – whether an idea, emotional attachment or belief. In the sign of Pisces, we are releasing in preparation for a brand new beginning.
We then have a 16° Gemini Full Moon on December 7. This part of the moon cycle will bring our anger, and perhaps overall emotional exhaustion, to the table. We then have the opportunity to resist the false urgency to immediately rid ourselves of our emotions through repression or dissociation or, worse – taking our emotions out on others (especially verbally). We can choose to deal with our emotions in real time. This full moon aspects Chiron in a way that can help us choose new choices in the face of familiar emotional triggers – especially when it comes to anger, frustration, and control issues. We will need to address how we feel about ourselves and assess whether or not we feel heard and seen in our daily environment.
Finishing this moon cycle is the last quarter moon at 24° Virgo on December 16. During this phase we must make space for rest and reflection. In particular, we may need to take inventory of our health which includes our mind-body-spirit system. This last quarter moon will be conjunct Ceres and sextile to Pallas Athene, suggesting that we may find a sense of peace by formulating a practical plan of deep care for ourselves and our bodies – and then implementing it one step at a time.
Above all else, being in a mutable moon cycle means being prepared to pivot, adapt, and flow. As the details of our lives continually shift and change, this moon cycle is best navigated by letting go of expectations and allowing for greater self-compassion and grace. Change is hard, especially for humans. And during this cycle we practice our best efforts at non-attachment and turn toward deep presence in the moment.
