This supercharged full moon event is sure to lead us into the depths of our emotions, especially if we have not yet stopped long enough to be present with them.
On May 15 at 11:14 pm CT / May 16 at 12:14 am ET there will be a total lunar eclipse in the sign of Scorpio. This eclipse occurs within a few degrees of the South Node, greatly amplifying themes of release, renewal and surrender. No matter how well we think we have processed our past, this lunar event may bring it back in the form of external triggers for deeper healing.
RELEASING THE ILLUSION OF CONTROL WILL SET YOU FREE
Since eclipses tend to mark the beginnings and endings of various chapters of our life, it can be especially difficult to manage our emotions because as humans we tend to prefer comfort over change. But the truth is we have never had complete control over our lives, and we never will. Once we accept this and begin to integrate it into our daily life, we can set ourselves free.
This is a lunar eclipse, which is a full moon event that is said to be amplified by the hands of fate. This time is likely to induce heightened emotional sensitivity as something ends; whether that be a cycle, circumstance, belief, perception, relationship, etc. As a result of this release, a new reality can be born.
This is not a time to tighten our grip; if something tries to exit your life, it is best to surrender to the unknown and let it go.
This eclipse occurs within a few degrees of the South Node, which boosts the likelihood that we will be pressured to finally deal with or release something from the past. It is possible that we may find ourselves working with repressed emotions and memories, as Scorpio has an affinity for cutting straight to the core. We may not understand (or even like it) it right away, but whatever is coming up for us is part of a much larger rebirthing process at play.
BUDGETING YOUR ENERGY WILL BE NECESSARY
This lunar eclipse is co-ruled by Mars and Pluto, two planets that share a desire for action and results. However, with Mars in Pisces, the best way to cope may be to find a healthy balance between action and surrender. Our capacity to heal through compassion (for ourselves and others) is strengthened when Mars is in Pisces, which we would be wise to take advantage of. When something triggers you, ask yourself: is this worth the energy it takes to fight for, or is it best to just let it go? Of course, only you can decide what the answer is.
The eclipse also aspects Neptune, asking us to tap into our intuition through stillness and rest. In quiet moments absent of stimulation, we can find a connection to our inner voice, eager to speak to us. What is your intuition telling you? What illusions are you ready to release? What truth is trying to reveal itself to you?
If we find that clarity eludes us, we would be better off taking a nap and trying again with a fresh perspective.
BE PREPARED WITH A MENU OF HEALTHY COPING STRATEGIES TO CHOOSE FROM
A tense square between the Moon and Saturn can invite a sober assessment of the pain, grief and/or trauma we have both witnessed and experienced firsthand – particularly since March 2020 when Saturn’s entrance into Aquarius marked the beginning of a global pandemic. With the South Node in Scorpio from January 2022 – July 2023, eclipse seasons during this time will be prompting us to both acknowledge and work through our trauma. For this reason, it may be helpful to create a self-care menu of options to choose from so that you are prepared to cope with whatever comes up in a healthier, more intentional way.
This eclipse can help us cultivate emotional attunement because of the moon’s proximity to Neptune. When our sensitivity is heightened, as it is during this eclipse, it is critically important to be mindful of what we are consuming (i.e. food, television, music, drugs, alcohol, people).
Scheduling in extra rest, leaning on your support system and avoiding extremes is highly recommended.
This lunar event will undoubtedly challenge us to embody our highest level of maturity. In this process of orienting to a new reality, Saturn can show us where we need to respect boundaries, whether internally or externally.
As with any lunar event, check your own chart for deeper reflection and the rich opportunity to derive symbolic meaning from your life. Check which house is ruled by Scorpio, as well as any aspects the eclipse makes to your natal planets for more context.
